Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), is natural gas under pressure which remains clear, odourless, and non-corrosive. It is also a cheaper, greener, and more efficient alternative to the traditional petrol and diesel fuels for vehicles.

CNG is comprised of: • Mostly methane gas which, like gasoline, produces engine power when mixed with air and fed into your engine’s combustion chamber.
• When CNG reaches the combustion chamber, it mixes with air, is ignited by a spark and the and the energy from the explosion moves the vehicle.
• CNG is compressed so that enough fuel can be stored in your vehicle to extend driving range, much like the gasoline tank in vehicle.

Installation of CNG

Installing an aftermarket CNG kit is a typical task. It should be done by professionals or under their guidance. The components of successfully retrofitting a CNG kit are.

  1. Pressure Regulator
  2. Gas/Air Mixer
  3. CNG filling valve
  4. High-pressure Line
  5. CNG tank and valves
  6. Petrol/CNG Selector switch
  7. Manometer
  8. Heating System
  9. Emulator

The total cost of ownership per unit of energy generated is less in case of CNG than other competitive fuels.

Fire Safety

Also, being lighter than the air, CNG dissipates into the atmosphere in case of a leakage. On the other hand, petrol and diesel pool on the ground and serve as a fire hazard.

Clean Fuel

CNG does not have sulphur, particulate matter, traces of heavy metals or toxic additives, which may contaminate the lube oil.

Better Performance

CNG burns cleaner in comparison to petrol and diesel.CNG vehicles are quieter and contribute less to the noise pollution.

Why should you switch to CNG

If you are planning to switch your car from petrol to CNG, here's what you should know about things such as CNG car insurance, change in car's performance, etc.

Goes the Distance

CNG gives better mileage in comparison to petrol and diesel. 1-kg of CNG generally takes you more than one litre of petrol.

Safe Performance

CNG components are refined to international standards and are tested to ensure safe performance. CNG fuel systems are also sealed to prevent any leakages.

Safe Fuel

The properties of CNG make it a safe fuel. It is stored in high gauge seamless cylinders which are certified so negligible chance of leakage. It is lighter than air, so in case of leak it just rises up and disperses into the atmosphere and mixes in the air easily and evenly.

  • What is CNG?

CNG stands for Compressed Natural Gas. It is a gaseous fuel and is a mixture of hydrocarbons, mainly methane, in the range of 89% to 90%.Due to its low density, it is compressed to a pressure of 200-250 Kg/cm² (g) to enhance the vehicle on-board storage capacity.

  • Yes, it is safe. The properties of CNG make it a safe fuel. It is lighter than air, so in case of a leak it just rises up and disperses into the atmosphere. Besides, a high auto-ignition temperature of 540 degrees centigrade as against petrol’s 360 degrees centigrade, makes it a safe fuel. Also, in case of a leak, if CNG’s concentration in the air is less than 5% or more than 15%, the gas will not burn even in the presence of a spark.

  • Performance– Petrol leading this hands down. An engine running on petrol has more power as compared to its counterpart.

Economy– Considering the price of petrol and CNG petrol is a less economic solution. The cost of petrol per liter is more as compared to the other fuel. Added to that is the cost of long term CNG vehicles is more as compared to the petrol car. Yet doing the math and adding all the affecting factors CNG is about Rs. 3-4 per Km cheaper than its rival fuel.

Pollution– Petrol emits more harmful gases, on the other hand, CNG is more known for producing reduced harmful gases but emitting less harmful Greenhouse gasses.

  • Yes, even after conversion to CNG, the vehicle continues to be fitted with the petrol carburettor and fuel tank. The vehicle can therefore run on dual fuel, either on CNG or petrol, whenever desired, simply by flicking a switch on the dashboard.

  • Due to the different chemical and physical properties of this gas compared to petrol, CNG cars are inevitably less powerful. With Lovato Gas modern sequential injection systems loss of power however stands at around 10-15% and has no significant effect on driving. If you drain your pool to perform maintenance or once the swimming season has passed, be careful to not let the pool sit empty too long. As a general rule, it's best to leave water in a pool throughout the winter because the weight of the water counteracts with forces from the ground pressing up against the pool from below.

  • The cost of converting a vehicle to CNG depends on its type and make.

  • CNG tanks are made from extremely resistant full steel or steel and fibre composites to hold the final weight of the cylinder. They have extremely high mechanical resistance, tested to 300 bars, 1.4 times the normal working pressure, and are therefore extremely safe, approved and tested according to extremely stringent standards. Italian law also requires that each tank, after production testing, is then checked every 5 years for Italian-approved cylinders and every 4 years for R110-approved cylinders (from the production date stamped on the tank identification plate) by the GFBM, the Italian vehicle cylinder control body. Specialist mechanics carry out these tests, replacing the tanks with others already tested. The cost of the test and replacement is paid for by the GFBM, which also guarantees insurance cover for the cylinders (Italian law no. 145 of 07.06.1990), while the car owner pays for tank removal/refitting.

  • CNG emits less carbon dioxide and other pollutants as compared to liquid fuels. Thus, CNG contributes in lowering air pollution, also helps in improving the Balance of Payments by acting as a substitute for imported liquid fuels, provides more business and job opportunities with the opening up of a new sector, and being competitively priced, it appeases motorists.

  • Everything is automatic with Lovato Gas modern injection systems. All the driver needs to do is fill up with gas, push the fuel-switch and… start saving!.

  • Given that the car usually starts on petrol before automatically switching over to gas, it is a good idea to always have a certain amount of petrol in your tank. For some makes of car, petrol in the tank also serves to protect the petrol pump that would deteriorate prematurely if the car were run on empty.
